Ciclovia is a way to promote physical activity, and fight obesity and chronic diseases.  Last year, the Lawrence Ciclovía attracted hundreds of people to the downtown area.  We are looking forward to another successful event. On Sunday, August 6 and 20, 2017, from 3:00pm—7:00pm, the City will close Essex Street, from the corner of Union Street to Lawrence Street, and a portion of Common Street for its annual Ciclovía.  During the hours of a Ciclovía, roadways are closed to ALL motorized vehicular traffic and opened for biking, walking, jogging, skate and long boarding, and other forms of physical activities.  Stations are also set up for aerobics, Zumba, short games, hopscotch, jump rope and more. The Lawrence Ciclovía connects its participants with vibrant public spaces, active transportation and good health through this car-free event.  By closing streets to traffic, the roads become an extension of the park and create larger public places for families to enjoy the outdoors, walking, cycling and other activities
